Project Information

JWDA restored and renovated this monumental 230,000-square-foot bank in the historic Bund district.  It was originally built before World War II and the goal was to return the building to its original state while meeting current building regulations.  Since the Bund was formerly the center of Western economic power in China, the building embodies the eclectic dialect of financial institutions worldwide.  The 22-month remodeling project included structural upgrading, new mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and the removal of a mezzanine added in a past, less sensitive renovation.  Subtle early-20th-century decorative features were added to highlight the principal architectural features.
