TownePlace Suites by Marriott Breaks Ground

07.2016

SOUTH WESTConstruction has begun on the 9-story TownePlace Suites by Marriott® in downtown San Diego.    The project site is a 7,500-SF mid-block parcel located on 6th Avenue between Beech and Cedar Street in the Cortez Hill neighborhood.

The building design is focused on providing a very transparent street frontage while respecting the existing modern architecture of the adjacent building.  The transparent, two-story ground floor will promote an interaction between the interior and public realm resulting in an activated ground floor area and enhanced pedestrian experience.

TownePlace Suites will provide lodging accommodations to leisure and business travelers in the downtown San Diego area.  The project program consists of 98 suites with guest amenities, a two-story lobby and grab-and-go food bar.  Two small courtyards in the back of the building provide outdoor space for guests and will be used to treat stormwater run-off of the site.   Guest parking is located off-site in the adjacent parking structure.

JWDA project team members include Joseph O. Wong, FAIA, David N. Priest, AIA, Chris Fassler, RA, and Corinne Kelley, LEED AP BD+C.
