SDCCD North City Campus Grand Opening

10.2013

NCC_web_08_1733x1095pxWednesday, October 30th 2013 marked the Grand Opening of North City Campus, a two-story, 42,500-square-foot facility designated as the Campus of Excellence for Business and Information Technology for San Diego Continuing Education. The new facility supports and further enhances the San Diego Community College District’s region wide reputation for providing high quality, cutting edge business technology courses and job training programs. The diverse program required state-of-the-art and technology rich classrooms, computer labs, multi-purpose space, and administrative offices. The facility also houses a new High Tech Center for Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS). This center provides assistive technology training to support DSPS students and their participation in the programs and courses offered by the district.

The building’s design blends multi-colored fiber reinforced cementitious panels, standing seam zinc siding, and stucco with expansive windows that provide views and flood the higher education facility with natural light. Spacious exterior balconies and courtyards provide venues for outdoor activity and promote interaction among faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Large operable glass doors and windows take advantage of San Diego’s climate to provide natural ventilation and daylight to the majority of interior spaces and provide occupant flexibility for indoor/outdoor meeting and gathering space. Other measures incorporated to achieve SDCCD’s sustainability goals include the use of highly efficient mechanical and lighting systems that exceed state efficiency standards by 30%, over 40% reduction in water use through the incorporation of ultra-low-flow fixtures, water efficient landscaping, and an underground drywell for treating storm water on-site.
