Located in the village of La Jolla, CA, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center for the La Jolla Music Society is designed to expand opportunities for educational programing and enhance the identity of the La Jolla cultural community, and to support the continued growth of the society’s prominent music, dance, film, and opera performances.
The 500-seat concert hall is outfitted with variable acoustics, stage configurations, and media projection capabilities. Adjacent to the hall, a 150-seat flexible use performance, education and/or social space offers a vibrant and more casual option. An outdoor garden plaza, protected from the street by a terra cotta curtain, serves both facilities as a mixing lobby while offering yet another lively social and performance space.
The outcome of an in-depth community planning process, the facility is fashioned as an intimate composition of smaller structures and open spaces, maintaining the traditional building scale of its environs in form, materiality, and contemporary aesthetic.
