Project Information

The San Diego Convention Center Sails Pavilion required conversion of the Center’s existing outdoor covered space into an enclosed area for special events. JWDA provided planning, design, construction documents and construction administration for HVAC and electrical updates, the glass curtain wall that spans 300 feet and rises to a height of 60 feet and a new sailcloth fabric enclosure. The project included improved signage, the installation of an industry standard trade show floor, a new fire suppression system and a state-of-the-art lighting system. JWDA also completed ADA and Title 24 update documents for the existing Convention Center as part of this project. JWDA worked with deb, Inc. on a design-build contract for this facility. The project was completed 45 days ahead of schedule and more than 3% under budget. The Sails Pavilion Enclosure earned the 2000 “Best of California” Award by CA Construction Link, the Excellence Award from the National Design/Build Institute, and it was recognized by the American General Contractors Association.
