north embarcadero visionary plan project receives CMAA and ASCE Design awards
05.2015
The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan (NEVP) project has received awards from the San Diego chapters of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). From ASCE, the NEVP project was awarded “Outstanding Project” in the Urban or Land Development Category.
The 105-foot wide esplanade includes formal gardens, landscaped plazas, shade pavilions and a 30-foot-wide waterfront promenade, allowing users to walk, jog, cycle, relax and attend public events. JWDA provided full architectural services for the North and South pavilions and additional structures. Artist Pae White was selected by the NEVP Public Art Committee to create public art, in this case, “working sculptures,” in collaboration with the design team. The design combines functionality and creative vision, featuring shaded aluminum- and stainless steel-clad pavilions with cutout letters and words that adorn the façade as well as glass-enclosed buildings that symbolize dawn and dusk. Completion of the $31.1 million Phase 1 of the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan marks an exciting future, filled with opportunity and continued development, for downtown San Diego.
