The JWDA team was invited to celebrate the grand opening for Mesa College’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Building earlier this week. San Diego Community College District’s “growth spurt” across San Diego includes Clairemont’s Mesa College – with much more new construction to come. JWDA provided full architectural services for the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building. The new building sits at the heart of Mesa Campus. Several workshops between JWDA and faculty members spurred an ongoing collaboration between user and design team with the objective to create a space that would become the core of the campus. An abundance of natural light, elevated material selection and modern design elements helped shape the building.
The three-story, $40.5 million project includes 73,700 square-feet of classrooms, laboratory spaces for psychology, anthropology, and geography, administrative offices, and a series of outdoor courtyards and courts to enhance the building’s connection to the overall campus. The multi-purpose rooms and indoor/outdoor gathering spaces create a dynamic exchange in formal and practical consideration, furthering the engagement between students and faculty.
