Azuriik Affordable Development Planned for National City

04.2022

Azuriik is a new publicly funded affordable housing project located on Roosevelt Avenue and East 2nd Street in National City, approximately 10 miles south of downtown San Diego along the San Diego Bay.  At 22 stories, the project will be one of the tallest buildings in south county, with high visibility from the surrounding Interstate 5 and marina.

Developed by the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee (MAAC), Azuriik is geared toward families with annual incomes from 30% to 80% of the area median income.  Amenities include an onsite daycare center, a business center, community rooms and outdoor terraces.  Construction for Azuriik is planned for early 2023 with anticipated completion in 2025.

The 400-unit development is primarily clad in curtain wall and metal panel.  Paneling color and orientation is designed to accentuate the approximate 240 foot building height and features building projections and roof overhangs.  JWDA is providing full architectural services on the project.

The JWDA team is led by Joseph Wong, FAIA; Matthew Geaman, AIA, LEED AP; David Priest, AIA; Sophia Del Mar English, Assoc. NOMA; Adrienne Westlund; Marcella Italiano; and Zimo Ren.
