04.2015

AS_web_01_1733x1095px_w5JWDA recently celebrated Alpha Square’s “Topping Out” Ceremony with The Alpha Project, community leaders, city representatives, and project team.  At 60% complete, ahead of schedule and under budget, Alpha Square will include 203 studio apartments for homeless and low income individuals in Downtown San Diego.  Located at the corner of Market and 14th Street in the East Village, the project will consist of a single six-story building with one level of subterranean parking. All 203 studio units will be fully furnished with internet access, cable television and telephone service. On-site amenities will include street-front retail and commercial space on the building’s ground floor, along with case management, financial support and access to long-term treatment and other services for all residents through Alpha Project’s numerous programs and those of more than a dozen community-based partners.  The facility will provide common dining and recreational facilities, a computer lab for resident use, and a roof-top garden.

“Catalyst projects such as Alpha Square are revitalizing Southeastern San Diego.”  JWDA provided architectural and interior design services.  Chelsea Development Corporation served as the Developer, along with Emerson Construction Company as the General Contractor.  Other key consultants include Nasland Engineering, DCI Engineers, and Neri Landscape Architecture. Alpha Square will be managed by The Alpha Project, a non-profit, community service group whose mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities by providing work, recovery and support services to people who are motivated to change their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
