ALILA MAREA BEACH RESORT ENCINITAS IS ONE OF THE BEST NEW LUXURY HOTELS TO VISIT IN 2021 BY THE ROBB REPORT

11.2020

As featured in Hospitality Design & the Robb Report, The Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas is slated to debut along San Diego’s North County coastal region in early 2021. As the latest entry into Hyatt’s growing Alila brand portfolio, the forthcoming luxury concept will be the brand’s first new-build resort in the Americas and its second California property. Set against a backdrop of coastal bluffs, the resort will be crafted by locally based Joseph Wong Design Associates and New York firm MARKZEFF will oversee the interior design.

The design will evoke barefoot luxury, echoing the unscripted and vibrant joie de vivre of the surf community. Sixteen suites and two presidential suites will be included among the 130 accommodations—each overlooking the coast or gardens. An oceanfront pool and infinity edge jacuzzi will serve as a key social hub along, along with a signature eatery featuring a rooftop patio. In addition to Spa Alila, the resort will be home to more than 28,500 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting and event space.

The architectural design for Alila Marea acknowledges its exceptional location by striking a balance between the natural elements of the site and the introduced built form.  The arrival experience is mannered by a sense of discovery.  As the hotel structure meanders gently along the coastal bluff, the building articulation provides interest and shadow relief along its form, allowing for a seamless blend between building and the natural landscape.  The exterior massing is a rhythm of changing planes and roof elevations with substantial feature overhangs that break up the elongated building façade, while private and public indoor / outdoor spaces focus on framing the extraordinary views of the coast.

The JWDA team is led by Joseph O. Wong, FAIA; Rick Rounds, AIA; Michael Tria; and Eduardo Franco.
