AIA Members Tour Award-Winning Alila Marea Beach Resort

JWDA was invited by the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to lead a tour of the recently completed Alila Marea Beach Resort, located in the small beach community of Encinitas, California. Perched on a beautiful cliffside bluff, the design for Alila Marea is immersive; and balances between the site’s natural elements and the introduced built form.
The Alila Marea debuted in early 2021 as the Hyatt brand’s first new-build in the United States. Its 130 guestrooms boast coastal and garden views of the Pacific Ocean. Amenities include a bicycle and beach café, a 4,500-SF spa, a fitness center for guests, and several restaurants, lounge, bar, meeting spaces, and outdoor terraces. Developed by JMI Realty, JWDA Architects worked closely with interior designer Mark Zeff on the project.
Alila Marea has been featured as one of the best in several noteworthy publications throughout the years including the 11-2021 edition of Interior Design Magazine; 01-2022 Hospitality Design Magazine; and 2022 Travel + Leisure Best New Hotels in the World.
