The Lotus Creative Center is a master planned technology district in Shanghai, China along a growing multi-modal transportation corridor located between the outskirts of the city proper and the airport. The project provides a creative workplace and district anchor for technology and research industries. The iconic “Lotus Building”, the heart of the complex, houses an exhibition gallery space. This building also features café and restaurant spaces for tenant and public use and maximizes indoor and outdoor public and green space for shared use. The building skin is carefully designed to ensure adequate ventilation, daylighting, and thermal control over a range of expected conditions. The Lotus Building is enhanced with an LED display system that can present varied media for nighttime visual interest. The office space features an interior circulation atrium “greenbelt” which runs the full length of the outer building and provides natural daylight deep into each floor plate of the building. Two levels of underground parking accommodating 1800+ vehicles ensure that the site maximizes open space. The project utilizes sustainable technologies throughout including rainwater and grey water capture & filtration for re-use, photovoltaic systems for electricity generation and other strategies for reduced impact on the environment.
