JWDA Designs New Technology Campus in China

Shanghai, China -- The Lotus Creative Center is a new facility in the master planned technology district of Zhangjiang, located along a growing multi-modal transportation corridor between the city proper and the airport. The facility derives its name from the lotus flower which grows up from the mud into an object of great beauty. The project will provide a creative workplace and district anchor for technology and research industries.

The iconic "Lotus Building", the heart of the complex, will house an exhibition gallery space to highlight design achievements of the technology district and host collaborative presentations and lectures to share the latest trends. This building will also feature café and restaurant space for tenant and public use with both indoor and outdoor public spaces and green space for shared use. The Lotus Building at the center of this new technology park stands as symbol of change and growth based on sustainable principals. The building skin is carefully designed to ensure adequate ventilation and thermal control over a range of expected conditions. In addition, the Lotus Building will be enhanced with an LED display system that can present varied media and color for night time visual interest. The office space will feature an interior circulation atrium "greenbelt" which will run the full length of the outer building and provide natural daylight deep into each floor plate as well as vertically into the building. Two levels of underground parking accommodating 1800+ vehicles will ensure that the site maximizes open space.

The project utilizes sustainable technologies such as daylighting and zoned light sensors, occupancy sensors that automatically switch off in areas not in use, water efficient fixtures, rainwater and greywater capture and filtration for re-use, and photovoltaic systems for electricity generation as well as other strategies for reduced impact. The center's expected completion is 2010.
