San Diego, California -- The approval process moves forward for two hotel projects designed by Joseph Wong Design Associates. In January the Centre City Development Corporation's (CCDC) Design Approval Panel granted an approval of the schematic design of the new Village Hotel. Located in San Diego's East Village, the new project replaces a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Hotel that was damaged by fire in 2006. The new 5-story boutique hotel will offer 89 extended stay rooms that will cater to seasonal travelers. The 30,000 square-foot facility will offer ground floor retail and a common room with a large deck on the fifth floor. Many rooms will offer gracious balconies which will allow visitors to enjoy the sunny temperate weather afforded by the hotel's proximity to the bay. The project is expected to be completed by 2010.
Another hotel project granted approval in April is the Staybridge Hotel located in the northern part of the city, adjacent to where State Route 163 enters downtown. The hotel's location on a highly visible block affords 'four-sided' architecture. This redevelopment project will provide 126 suites in a 8-story mid-rise with contemporary design and clean lines. The hotel is expected to start construction in 2009.
